I always try to produce work that is creative, gets the message across and looks good doing it.
Today I am a web designer. It didn’t start out that way … 38 years ago I wanted to be a famous artist, impacting the world with amazing works.
Instead, I grew up in a marketing and communication industry that’s seen computer-generated graphics come, go, change and evolve. Charts and graphs on 8 pen plotters, 35 mm slides, digital presentations, I have worked with all these mediums.
Now, it’s the internet.
When I started, there were no post-secondary courses in computer graphics, my education came from years of experience. I’ve learned a great deal – and I continue to do so every day, working hard to keep up-to-date with the skills and programs required.
Sometimes it’s a challenge.
While other professions value experience, many in the design and marketing world that think if you are not between 18 and 35 you are no longer relevant or effective.
It’s been a while since I fell into that demographic …
So all I can do is continue doing what I enjoy and use my experience, commitment and a willingness to learn and improve – and push that age range up!
